Principle members of Sand14 are:
Richard Halcro
--------------
Holding degrees in both Archaeology and Robotics, Richard initially joined
the futures research team at British Telecom in the 1980s. He then went
on to hold senior positions in handset strategy at several mobile telecoms
operators. In 1999 he left the 'M4 Triangle' to set up Sand14 with Orcadian
artist, Georgina Westray, in order to pursue strategic opportunities
for future design and development of wireless devices - unavailable inside
the mobile
telecoms industry itself.
Simon Hay
---------
Trained at Edinburgh in Mechanical Engineering, Simon holds an MA in Mechanical
Design and specialises in multi-sensory feedback systems.
After several years in acoustic design at a Cambridge consultancy, he moved
into immersive systems, with a particular focus on tactile feedback.
He is currently developing a patented haptic feedback system. Simon joined
Sand14 in 2000.
Anne Moodie
-----------
An Anthropologist with an interest in technology design, Anne did her doctoral
thesis on the design and development of a Helicar concept.
She went on to specialise in corporate cultures of R&D in the IT industry.
Anne has also written extensively on the cultures of telecoms start-ups
in the UK, based on lengthy ethnographies of two companies in Manchester
and in London. She is now based at Sand14 and is available for consultation.
Georgina Westray
----------------
Trained in fine art at Glasgow and then at the Slade school. Georgina
Westray has lived and worked in Orkney for most of her life, inspired
by its landscapes and monuments, both ancient and modern. Her sculptural
abstractions and
paintings often draw together experiences of both archaeological and
industrial technology. Her work at Sand14 includes both continuing her
inspirational art practice, and the application of her art and aesthetics
to wireless
device design.
